Amber & Silver & Technology
Where Tradition Meets Algorithmic Technology

The parametric jewelry series presents projects at the intersection of art, technology, and craftsmanship, where advanced generative design techniques meet traditional amber — one of the oldest carriers of history and cultural memory. The collection reimagines amber in a new context — as a material capable of engaging in dialogue with digital aesthetics, algorithms used in aerospace and space technologies, and contemporary visual trends (such as glitch, topology, synchromorphism). Each object is a microscale expression in which tensions between nature, technology, and narrative materialize.

These jewelry pieces become witnesses and evidence of stories — about contemporary design, cultural memory, and emerging aesthetic forms in the realm of material culture.

The objects were created between 2017 and 2021 for the TrendBook publication by prof Sławomir Fijałkowski

The parametric jewelry collection uses advanced tools like Grasshopper and Rhino to design unique, mathematically defined forms. Grasshopper, a plugin for Rhino, enables algorithmic modeling, allowing for precise and flexible creation of complex geometries beyond the capabilities of traditional methods. As a result, each form can be unique while maintaining a coherent design language.

DLP (Digital Light Processing) is a 3D printing technology where light cures photoreactive resin layer by layer, producing highly detailed and accurate objects. A digital projector exposes each layer at once, making the process significantly faster compared to point-by-point methods.

ANEMONES

The jewelry piece Anemones was created for TrendBook 2018, representing the trend “Synchromorphism.” Designed in Rhino and Grasshopper, it was produced using DLP 3D printing, silver casting, and amber accents (Ø4 and Ø6). This work was showcased at several exhibitions, including AMBEREXPO in Gdańsk (March 21–24, 2018), INHORGENTA Munich (February 16–19, 2018), the Tour and Taxis venue in Brussels (February 28–March 18, 2018), and the European Parliament (December 4–6, 2018).

TEDDY BEAR LOVE

Teddy Bear Love, created for TrendBook 2019 and representing the trend “Teddy Bears,” is a set of two complementary designs. One piece features a generative, parametric structure inspired by aerospace lattice frameworks, while the other is a solid silver casting. Together, these pieces illustrate technological possibilities and material versatility, combining DLP 3D printing, silver casting, and amber elements.

PUFFER GLITCH PARAMETRIC PENDANT

The Puffer Glitch Pendant, designed for TrendBook 2022 and representing the trend “Glitch,” explores Baltic amber within the aesthetic context of digital distortion, deformation, and disruption. This approach breaks away from traditional amber jewelry design by juxtaposing amber with algorithmically generated forms. The pendant was designed parametrically, produced with DLP 3D printing in polymer resin, and cast in silver..

The Squircle Parametric Ring,  (name: From Square to Circle, From Circle to Square ) developed for TrendBook 2020 and representing the trend “Topology,” symbolizes a transformation from a circle to a square in three-dimensional space. This transition is visually expressed through a spherical amber element that morphs into amber enclosed within a square. Designed in Rhino and Grasshopper, the ring was produced using DLP 3D printing, silver casting, and amber integration. Each of these pieces reflects the innovative use of parametric design and advanced production techniques, bridging tradition with modernity in contemporary jewelry design.
